Ryan first studied film making and theory at Tahoma High School as a Sophomore. After graduation in 2006, Ryan went to the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles in 2007. His thesis zombie thriller We're all Zombies was shown at the Hotrod Monsters Film Festival in 2009.
After graduation in October, Ryan spent 7 months working on features, short films and music videos as a PA, grip, gaffer, set dresser and DP before returning back to Maple Valley in May of 2008 to write and direct short films.
He filmed his Hitchcockian Murder mystery Two for One in November 2008 in Tacoma, Wa at Valley Liquidation, his father's discount grocery store. The 15 page script was shot in 12 hours on Thanksgiving day. Two for One premiered at the Tacoma Film Festival in October 2009.
Being Human was shot in August of 2009 in Hansville, WA at the cabin of a friend. The film was completed in September 2009. It premiered at the Dam Short Film Festival in February 2010 and also screened at the Seattle True International Film Festival in June 2010 and the Silk City Flick Fest in October 2010.
Ryan's latest short film, Guilty Shoes, premiered at the 2011 National Film Festival for Talented Youth in Seattle, Washington where it won an Audience Choice Award.
